“Hey what can I say, I aged a little and had kids!”
The first point I feel that it is important to get across is that I don’t regret either of the above. Certainly the alternative to aging is much less attractive! It is however a simple fact that as we get older and basically embrace all aspects of life, our bodies change and so too do our measurements. This is natural.
Despite maintaining a regular weight and a good level of fitness, I found that in my thirties the garments produced by the leading sportswear brands that I had grown up with no longer fitted as comfortably as they had done previously. As I Iooked less like the young models advertising them (and to be fair the resemblance was never close), the less comfortable they felt to wear. After having my second daughter, tight fitting lycra was no longer my garment of choice. My friends and I shared this view and the concept was born. Silvergrey – a range of fitness wear for everyone, including those older than 30 and more than a size 6. Our designs and fit while keeping the sports aesthetic are intentionally more forgiving in some of the areas most affected by age and lifestyle.
The fitness culture in Australia is my inspiration. Our life expectancy here is amongst the highest in the world. Each morning women (and men) of all ages will be participating in some form of activity that they enjoy. Inevitably as life expectancy increases, so too will the age of those exercising. There is no reason why they shouldn’t look good while doing so.
Now in my 40’s, I still want to look good, on trend while feeling comfortable. What is perfect for the glossy magazines isn’t necessarily what is best for me. I hope to be keeping fit for at least another 40 years and hope that our range inspires you to do likewise. No compromising on style or quality – simply embracing change.
Why Silvergrey? Ok. So who doesn’t dye their hair?”
