The Challenge that is Mount Cooroora
Believe me, this one is a challenge!
Mount Cooroora sits imposingly over the small picturesque town of Pomona. It is famous for the King of the Mountain festival which takes place in July each year, when challengers run (yes run) up and down the 439 metre climb in times that will seem impossible to you when you are walking it. This years winner managed an unbelievably quick time of under 24 mins. That is up and back starting from in the town!
However for those of you not racing, myself very much included, Mt Cooroora provides a physically challenging but enjoyable steep climb with fantastic views to reward your efforts.
There are some very steep rocky sections that require time and strength, but most of you with reasonable stamina should be able to tackle this one, working at your own pace. I am not suggesting a time for this climb as it is one that I have found tough both the times I have attempted it.
Good footwear is essential along with plenty of water rations.
I would suggest that any one fancying this trek should watch one of the many videos on YouTube first, as that will give a good idea of what lies ahead. Then if you are still up for it, then enjoy and declare yourselves, Queens of the Mountain.
