I have gone nuts
As part of my annual post-Christmas battle that I describe as the ‘Hunger Games’, I have reintroduced almonds into the family household, as the quick and easy snack of choice.
Almonds are something of a forgotten treat for me. I was initially introduced to them as part of one eating plan or another, some years back but for some reason they had vanished off my radar.
They work wonderfully at filling you up and have some great food qualities.
They are high in mono unsaturated fat, but extremely low in saturated fat. Mono unsaturated fat has been linked in multiple studies to a reduced risk of heart disease. They are also high in Magnesium and Potassium. Magnesium helps keep your circulation healthy. Potassium helps maintain normal blood pressure.
Almonds are protein rich. A handful of almonds will contain almost 8 grams of protein. They are carb low as well!
Personally I find that as well as being a tasty snack, they work to curb my appetite. Just keep in mind while they are a healthy snack, they are still a snack all the same, so eaten a lot of them will increase calorie intake.
Even the kids like them!
