Sometimes it is just hard to get motivated particularly if the weather is rubbish. Here are some tips that will hopefully help.
- Look in the mirror.
I usually find that on those cannot be bothered days, I have a natural slouch about me. Seeing it is usually sufficient to get me out there doing something about it. If it has been a bingeing weekend, the mirror won’t lie to you. It will be there for you to see. This too will hopefully kick start your motivation.
- Look at others.
This is not meant to sound bitchy, but you can always distinguish between those who exercise and those who don’t. Walk around a park and look at those outdoors enjoying it. Then walk around a shopping mall and look at those for whom shopping is their primary activity. Who looks the happier and who do you most want to be like.
- Find something you love
I know I have written about this before, but if you exercise is something that you like doing, then motivation comes easy. Some of my friends play tennis. Despite the seriousness with which they take it and the calorie burn that comes with it, for them it is a get together. What can be better than keeping in shape socialising.
- Get your mates involved.
Similar to the one above I know, but if you have friends involved then you are less likely to drop out. It is harder to disappoint your mates than it is to let yourself down.
- Set a target.
Make it realistic and you will try to stick with it, I promise you. For January I had a running target that kept me motivated, for February it was squats and plank challenge, for March, swimming and for April I’m lifting weights.
Having something to work towards always helps. Set that goal.
These are my top five but I would be interested if anyone out there has any motivational tips to share.
